Local Now has re-launched its free ad-supported streaming service, now offering both local news and entertainment content. The app is available on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Xfinity, Vizio, Samsung, Hisense, and Android and iOS devices.
Local Now was previously an app dedicated to local news and weather in over 200 markets, in partnership with trusted news sources, and described as a spinoff of The Weather Channel. Now, the app is expanding to include additional channels beyond news coverage.
“Local Now is the most localized news and entertainment
free-streaming service on the planet,” said Byron Allen, Founder, Chairman, and
CEO of Local Now parent company Allen Media Group. “After more than three years
in development and a significant investment in the platform, Local Now is
extremely unique as it uses proprietary software and artificial intelligence to
produce, aggregate, curate, and stream — in real time — local news, weather,
sports, traffic, movies, TV shows, documentaries, and channels geo-fenced to
the user’s zip code. No other streaming service has this capability and
advanced technology. We are well-positioned as the new global standard for free
Local Now has over 300 free streaming channels, including a Local Now channel in every zip code of the country, according to a news release sent out Monday. The app now includes genre based channels from content library across the Allen Media Group including The Weather Channel, Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures and content partners including Lionsgate, Cinedigm, Maverick, Gravitas, Sonar, Filmrise, Quiver, Freestyle Digital Media, and more. On the guide, you’ll still find your local news, along with channels like Adrenaline Rush for action movies, Fear This! for horror titles, and Family Flicks for family friendly content.
If you’re only interested in the news, you can filter the channels in the guide by genre with a dropdown menu. Just choose “NEWS” from the menu to see the lineup of local, national, and international news channels.
